The name came to Kristi in a dream: Mayberry, for the laid-back sweetness of a small town where people look out for each other. And the wine?
“We want you to get drunk off the milk of human kindness.”
Kristi, to the White County News. They call the genre Amerikindness.
First, ages six & nine: Steven walks Kristi to her first day of school with a bunch of neighborhood kids.
Then, high school: Senior Steven directs freshman Kristi in her first play. Then they drift apart.
Finally, September 2022: A mutual friend's concert. Third time's the charm, they've been inseparable since, writing about fifty songs a year.
Veteran musician
Steven has appeared on stages across America, Europe and Asia, we hear he's big in the Philippines, where he sang original songs on national TV. His inventive guitar work is the backbone of the Mayberry Wine sound, written in a home where every room has instruments in it. He's the tunesmith of the two: several new songs a week, laced with playful intelligence and a mature optimism.
Creative alchemist
A former cast member of Amsterdam's legendary Boom Chicago, where she learned how powerful laughter is at delivering hard truths, Kristi plays woodwinds, percussion and strings, and gives birth to new worlds on paper: the sci-fi novels Song of Lyran and NeuroNet, a history of Atlanta's Fox Theatre, and Sketches & Songs. Her unconventional harmonies fill the band's music with magic and a sense of wonder.
Both Kristi and Steven are singer/songwriters, but when he wraps his happy riffs around her dystopian lyrics, something magical happens.
They describe their songs as “Reese’s love songs.”
